Kikuyu grass (penisetum clandestinum) is a perennial low growing grass which is both rhizomatous and stoloniferous. It forms dense swards

kikuyu grass and is deeply rooted. It can withstand frosty conditions.

If no close grazing is practiced mowing down is necessary to maintain palatability.

The grass is suited to humid areas with plenty of rainfall. Fertile deep soils are preferable and topdressing with nitrate fertilizers is recommended in low soil fertility areas. The grass establishes from seed materials at seeding rate of 5 kg/ha or vegetatively from cuttings of root stalks
